The 4th Nailympia Orlando 2024: A Glittering Success

The 4th Nailympia Orlando has concluded, marking another milestone in the world of competitive nail artistry. This year’s event was nothing short of spectacular, with 84 competitors occupying 384 seats, representing 14 countries including Serbia, Hungary, Cuba, Aruba, Italy, Germany, France, Trinidad & Tobago, USA, UK, Spain, Argentina, Ukraine and Canada. The diverse international participation contributed to one of the most exciting competition floors seen in the USA for many years.

The atmosphere was electric, with camaraderie and creativity flowing freely among the participants. A total of 99 medals and 6 trophies were up for grabs, highlighting the high stakes and intense competition. Alex Fox, the event’s organiser, expresses her delight at the overwhelming response, “It was truly magical to see the amount of people in the arena. We started this journey with Premiere Orlando in 2019, and each year it grows in popularity as more and more people support Nailympia Orlando, coming to test and showcase their skills, network, and stretch their creativity. I’m so pleased to see we have injected the competition bug back into the American nail industry. I was stunned and delighted to sign up 29 judges who all showed up in person and judged their respective categories and policed the floor.”

The event was generously sponsored by Glitterbels, the UK nail brand that has recently launched into the USA from its headquarters in Atlanta, along with Aprés and Americannails, who donated the desk lamps. The seamless organisation and execution of the two-day event made it a nourishing experience for all involved.

One of the highlights was the presence of Scratch magazine’s editor, Helena Biggs, who managed the scoring system. She also hosted the first Scratch Social party, during which the new NASNA (North America’s Star Nail Artist) annual competition for North American nail professionals was announced, adding another layer of excitement to the event.

Nailympia Orlando 2024 not only celebrated technical skill and artistic expression but also fostered a sense of community and professional growth among nail artists. With its growing popularity and the increasing number of participants each year, it is evident that Nailympia Orlando has become a cornerstone event in the nail industry calendar, inspiring artists and enthusiasts alike.

Nailympia London introduces new competition!

In a remarkable & unforeseen development, Nailympia London introduces a new competition to its online line-up six weeks after the event has taken place

In an unprecedented move, the team at Nailympia took a series of requests to appeal scores from the latest Nailympia London, to a whole new level.

“After noting that the Invent a Nail Shape competition was proving challenging for judges and creating confusion for competitors, it was necessary to relook at this competition and revitalise it,” reveals Alex Fox, global director of Nailympia Competitions. “It was clear that very few entries right across the globe have been actual shape and structure nail inventions since introducing this competition, however we have seen stunning nails crafted for this category, therefore it’s been hard to judge and has afforded concerns that if competitors were not fitting the brief, then should these entries be disqualified?

“I’m not one to disqualify unless it’s deemed absolutely necessary, therefore we needed to find a solution that works now and moving into the future.”

Opting for a solution-oriented approach, the team, inspired by head judge Marian Newman’s insight, decided to listen to industry feedback. Marian Newman observed that competitors were pushing for an industry shift, seeking a competition that allowed complete creative autonomy over shape and design after establishing the stiletto structure. The competitors wanted to create a stiletto nail and from there let their creative juices go wild and bring a new-fashioned nail to life.

From this premise it was decided to take all the entries that had been submitted, scored and awarded for Invent A Nail Shape, at Nailympia London 2023, and move them into a new competition. The criteria were reformed, the initial 4 judges from the original competition invited to re-score the entries and a fifth judge added, giving the competition 13 different criteria.

Now, six weeks after the event, Nailympia London 2023 presents To Stiletto & Beyond, which affords three winners across three divisions who will receive a certificate by email and their medal by post. Additionally, score sheets for this new category will be sent to all participants, providing a comprehensive and fair evaluation of their creative endeavours.

An electric 2nd edition of Nailympia Germany in 2023

Nailympia Germany 2023 took place from the 31st of March until the 2nd of April 2023 at Beauty Düsseldorf, hosted in cooperation between Nailympia, SNI and Beauty Düsseldorf. The live event attracted over 83 competitors and the online categories 25 competitors. This totaled 108 competitors worldwide representing 4 continents, 23 countries and 470 entries across 17 categories – 12 live competitions and 5 online. The online version of 5 categories for those who could not attend the live event in Düsseldorf helped create the first hybrid competition for Nailympia Germany, which allowed those that could not travel to also take part.

All winners were announced on Sunday, the 2nd of April 2023 on stage at Beauty Düsseldorf in hall 12 on the Beautyfull stage nail, in association with Nailympia and SNI.

Organizers, Stefanie Lo Re and Ivonne Voigt state, “Hosting the 2nd edition of Nailympia Germany again has been a wonderful experience. The global director Alex Fox hosted Nailympia in Mexico in December 2022 together with Dafne Fernandez and in Orlando, USA, and London by herself. We were happy to have Alex Fox also in Germany present alongside organizers and judges.

The buzz was electric in the arena, the judges arrived a day earlier and were desperate to get onto the floor and feel the vibe, see the competitors, and immerse themselves in nails. This was a very uplifting event, hosted during very challenging times for the global industry and beyond. However, ‘nails’ was on the menu and ‘nails’ did not disappoint. There was superb comradery across the floor and intense, skillful nail work undertaken. It was a blessed experience for all and gave us all the boost we were searching for. Like-minded people, together for three days in the name of ‘nails’ was a truly motivating shared experience.

Alex Fox, global director, Nailympia Competitions

“We could not have imagined in our wildest dreams such a huge amount of competitors for the second Nailympia Germany event. Moving from 48 to over 100 in one year was such a positive response from the global competitor community. We were literally astounded to find 24 countries represented, which filled the team with hope for the future of nail competitions and the industry as a whole. During the three-day event, social media posts, generated by the spectators, competitors, judges and the Nailympia team, were flying around the world, giving it a global audience attracting wide reaching interest. The competitors, as expected, delighted with their imaginative, skillful and original artworks, while keeping the atmosphere composed, yet serious with strong focus alongside some light-hearted interludes. It really was a sensational event to kick off the Nailympia 2023 calendar, leaving the team excited for the year ahead and for the positivity it has garnered across the worldwide nail industry.”

Stefanie Lo Re, organiser Nailympia Germany

“Back in 2022 when we started organising Nailympia Germany 2023 I never imagined that it would reach such success. Every competitor and their models were so lovely and dedicated throughout the three-days.

“My goal for 2023 was that people felt welcomed and treated fairly. I was very happy to see that they also enjoyed making new connections and we all became like a family. It was exciting that the arena attracted the interest of international industry players who were at Beauty Düsseldorf seeking news ways to grow and improve their own respective nail industries.

“The blend of both floor and booth judges was in itself a special recipe for success and many new relationships were forged. I’m so excited for the future of Nailympia Germany and Nailympia Competitions worldwide.”

We’re excited to announce the winners of this year’s Nailympia Germany, which are:
