Nailympia to be hosted in Vietnam
Damon Ho, a nail artist & educator from Arizona, USA, is to host the inaugural Nailympia Vietnam competition in April 2024. This news follows his participation as a judge on the Nailympia panel in the USA in 2023, and his close observation of the second Nailympia Mexico. This addition to the Nailympia global family will be hosted at the Grand Palace in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, 10-11 April.
Keen to afford industry change and growth, and widen the Nailympia net, Damon cites: “Hosting Nailympia Vietnam is about bringing international standards to Vietnamese nail artistry; creating a bridge between Vietnam and the global beauty industry, while showcasing the immense talent in the region.”
A keen advocate of competitions, Damon believes that the Nailympia experience is transformative, as it fosters an inclusive and diverse culture while showcasing innovation and industry trends. “Nailympia is an exhilarating platform that stands for quality and excellence,” he concedes. “It’s a fair and impartial competition that celebrates creativity and skill in nail artistry.”
Considering a broader perspective, Damon harbours an expansive vision for the future, with Nailympia Vietnam as the fi rst step towards the bigger picture. “My primary goal is to elevate the global perception of Vietnamese nail artistry and create expansive opportunities for professionals in this fi eld,” he reveals. “I’m focused on building a global community in which skills and knowledge are shared, fostering growth and innovation in nail artistry.
“A key part of this vision is to integrate AI technology into the nail industry, enhancing both the artistic process and business side of operations. I’d also like to explore the idea of a TV show focused on the nail business. This show would not just illuminate the artistic side of nail artistry, but delve into effective business strategies for scaling and thriving in the industry. In essence, my aim is to transform the nail sector into a globally recognised and respected field, showcasing the talent and innovation that define Vietnamese nail artistry.”

Host of Nailympia Vietnam

When did you train as a manicurist & why?
I moved to the USA over 10 years ago, driven by the prospect of a better life and in pursuit of the American dream for myself and my family. Shortly after my arrival, I trained as a manicurist. Initially, it was a practical decision to earn a living, but I quickly developed a profound passion for the artistry and personal connections the role offers.
What is it about nails that interests you?
Nail artistry’s ability to uplift and transform fascinates me. The joy and satisfaction in clients’ eyes after a service are deeply fulfilling, and my love for artistry only grew as I realised the vast potential in nail design.
How did you build your reputation?
Persistence, dedication to quality and innovative techniques were key. Also, uplifting those around me and adhering to the philosophy of doing things right played a significant role in building my reputation.
What do you love about the nail industry?
The industry’s creativity, evolution and impact on both artists and clients. It’s a field that harmoniously blends aesthetics with emotional wellbeing.
What does your role involve?
My days are spent managing salons, hosting training sessions, strategising for growth, exploring new trends and seeking new knowledge.
What are your kitbag essentials?
While I have a variety of tools, my hands, my mind and my experience are the most crucial. I’ve trained myself to adapt to any challenge and use any tool effectively.
Who have you trained with over the years?
I’ve trained with a range of experts, both in the USA and globally, each enriching my skillset and broadening my perspective.
Who do you admire in the nail industry & why?
My admiration extends from successful CEOs to dedicated parents managing home businesses. It’s their innovation, passion and relentless pursuit of excellence that I admire.
What products do you use?
V Beauty Pure products are staple in my kit, but I use a variety of products to ensure the best outcomes. My partnership with V Beauty Pure is also driven by shared visions and goals with its CEO,
David Dilorenzo.
Why did you become a V Beauty Pure educator?
It was a step towards sharing my knowledge and helping others grow. My alignment with David Dilorenzo’s vision played a significant role in this decision.
What excites you about life in general?
Life excites me with its endless opportunities for growth, learning and positive impact on others.
What has been key to your success?
Dedication, continuous learning, adaptability and a drive for excellence have been the cornerstones of my success.
Where do you find inspiration for your nail art designs?
Inspiration is everywhere – in nature, fashion, art and everyday life experiences.
If not nails, what would you be doing?
Apart from the nail industry, I would most likely be involved in other entrepreneurial ventures in beauty and wellness. My tech holding company is nail techs and salon owners in scaling their businesses.
How are you embracing change in the nail industry?
I embrace change by constantly learning, updating my skills and staying ahead of trends and technologies.
What’s your career highlight?
Transforming my business from a single struggling salon into a thriving chain, and becoming a respected educator, stand out as career highlights.
If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
I would encourage more collaboration and less competition, fostering a community that thrives on shared success. Changing the pricing mindset to refl ect the true value of our artistry and skill is also vital.
What’s your advice for aspiring nail pros?
Never stop learning, be open to new ideas and take pride in your work. Remember, you’re not just a nail technician; you’re a therapist, artist and vital part of your clients’ lives.

The Runway brief for Nailympia Orlando
THEME: Dame Vivienne Westwoood
Vivienne Westwood was at the heart of British fashion since she began selling her punk-inspired designs in Malcom McLaren’s influential Kings Road store, Sex, in the 1970s. The Dame of the British Empire revolutionised what is deemed appropriate to wear in public. Think punk & new wave fashions. Breaking boundaries & openly expressing yourself. Brief By @jenniennails
- Mood Board submission – not a floor competition – hand in to the organizer or mail in prior to dates below.
- Competitors must design 3 different nail designs they feel will enhance, accessorize & interpret the brief.
- The 3 tips must be displayed in a simple way with a short explanation or visual sketch of how the designs fit the brief on a mood board.
- The mood board must be flat with no edges (not a box/not 3D) and must not exceed the size of A4 (8×12”). Foam board or cardboard are recommended to keep the board sturdy. Nails must be adhered to this board.
- Competitors may use ANY suitable materials that do not necessarily have to be nail products or can be a mixture of nail products and other materials. There are no restrictions on the creation of these 3 nails.
- The designs must be reasonably easy and quick to reproduce (100s would need to be made for a fashion show).
- Note that the main focus of a fashion show is the designer’s collection. Nails can be a ‘statement’ accessory, but should not overshadow the complete look.
- Nails at a fashion show are photographed close up for detailed beauty shots and should be visible from the runway as part of the complete look. The designs should be suitable for both of these situations.
- The finished nail designs should include suitable shape and length.
It is possible to send your entry in via mail, courier or with another tech if you can’t be at the event in person. Mailed in entries must be RECEIVED into Premiere’s office.

An electric 2nd edition of Nailympia Germany in 2023
Nailympia Germany 2023 took place from the 31st of March until the 2nd of April 2023 at Beauty Düsseldorf, hosted in cooperation between Nailympia, SNI and Beauty Düsseldorf. The live event attracted over 83 competitors and the online categories 25 competitors. This totaled 108 competitors worldwide representing 4 continents, 23 countries and 470 entries across 17 categories – 12 live competitions and 5 online. The online version of 5 categories for those who could not attend the live event in Düsseldorf helped create the first hybrid competition for Nailympia Germany, which allowed those that could not travel to also take part.
All winners were announced on Sunday, the 2nd of April 2023 on stage at Beauty Düsseldorf in hall 12 on the Beautyfull stage nail, in association with Nailympia and SNI.
Organizers, Stefanie Lo Re and Ivonne Voigt state, “Hosting the 2nd edition of Nailympia Germany again has been a wonderful experience. The global director Alex Fox hosted Nailympia in Mexico in December 2022 together with Dafne Fernandez and in Orlando, USA, and London by herself. We were happy to have Alex Fox also in Germany present alongside organizers and judges.
The buzz was electric in the arena, the judges arrived a day earlier and were desperate to get onto the floor and feel the vibe, see the competitors, and immerse themselves in nails. This was a very uplifting event, hosted during very challenging times for the global industry and beyond. However, ‘nails’ was on the menu and ‘nails’ did not disappoint. There was superb comradery across the floor and intense, skillful nail work undertaken. It was a blessed experience for all and gave us all the boost we were searching for. Like-minded people, together for three days in the name of ‘nails’ was a truly motivating shared experience.
Alex Fox, global director, Nailympia Competitions
“We could not have imagined in our wildest dreams such a huge amount of competitors for the second Nailympia Germany event. Moving from 48 to over 100 in one year was such a positive response from the global competitor community. We were literally astounded to find 24 countries represented, which filled the team with hope for the future of nail competitions and the industry as a whole. During the three-day event, social media posts, generated by the spectators, competitors, judges and the Nailympia team, were flying around the world, giving it a global audience attracting wide reaching interest. The competitors, as expected, delighted with their imaginative, skillful and original artworks, while keeping the atmosphere composed, yet serious with strong focus alongside some light-hearted interludes. It really was a sensational event to kick off the Nailympia 2023 calendar, leaving the team excited for the year ahead and for the positivity it has garnered across the worldwide nail industry.”
Stefanie Lo Re, organiser Nailympia Germany
“Back in 2022 when we started organising Nailympia Germany 2023 I never imagined that it would reach such success. Every competitor and their models were so lovely and dedicated throughout the three-days.
“My goal for 2023 was that people felt welcomed and treated fairly. I was very happy to see that they also enjoyed making new connections and we all became like a family. It was exciting that the arena attracted the interest of international industry players who were at Beauty Düsseldorf seeking news ways to grow and improve their own respective nail industries.
“The blend of both floor and booth judges was in itself a special recipe for success and many new relationships were forged. I’m so excited for the future of Nailympia Germany and Nailympia Competitions worldwide.”

Nailympia and Premiere Show Group extend a huge thank you to the wonderful judges, all industry experts and educators, most with over 10 years’ experience; head judge, Alisha Rimando, Gari-Dawn Tingler, Robert Nguyen, Vu Nguyen, Jaime Schrabeck, Lisa Peng, Maisie Dunbar, Guin Deadman, Emese Koppányi, Kalista Sims, Holly Schippers, Henrietta Almasi, Michelle Mullen and Koko Kashiwagi.
The competition this year was in association with Scratch and sponsored by Le Chat, Kokoist and Gotti.

It became the perfect place for everyone to come and say, ‘Hi’ and ask questions. I got to meet up with many industry friends and the support I got was unbelievable and enormous.”
Nailympia & Premiere strengthen partnership for 2023 with 4 USA locations
Nailympia Competitions, the globally renowned competition organisation for nail professionals, is expanding into three further locations for 2023, owing to a strengthened partnership with Informa Markets.
The success of the Nailympia Orlando 2019 and 2022 editions will see Nailympia Competitions at beauty exhibitions in the following locations, in line with the Premiere group’s growth across the USA:
Nailympia Anaheim 2-3 April
Nailympia Orlando 4-5 June
Nailympia San Antonio 1-2 October
Nailympia Columbus 8-9 October
This expansion comes at an exciting time, since Informa Markets announced earlier this year that it has partnered with the BolognaFiere Group and the Professional Beauty Association to deliver a landmark joint venture, promising an impressive series of beauty events in the US beauty market.
Nailympia Competitions will be hosted in seven locations for 2023; London, UK; Mexico City, Mexico; Düsseldorf, Germany, and Anaheim CA, Orlando FL, San Antonio TX and Columbus OH in the USA, in partnership with the world’s leading nail magazine, Scratch.
Each competition location will offer six live competitions on the show floor:
UV/LED Gel Tip & Overlay, L&P Acrylic Sculpture (with Perfect Match), The Joy of Nails, Stiletto Nails, Salon Nails & Reality Nails.
There will be four turn-in categories, comprising Flat Art, Runway Nails, Invent A Nail Shape and Extreme Nails Styling poster. All turn-in categories will have a theme that will be announced before each event and Reality Nails will be themed on the floor during the competition brief.
