Please note online competitions will close for judging on Friday 16th August 2024 & results will be announced at Nailympia London awards on Monday 14th October 2024 at London ExCel.
IMPORTANT, PLEASE NOTE
- Score sheets will be sent via e-mail within 2 weeks after the Nailympia event took place.
- The Nailympia team & organiser supports the decisions made by the host and judges. And no rescoring will be undertaken after an event has taken place.
- There will no longer be judges critique on any nails or score sheets at the close of any Nailympia.
- You are welcome to ask judges what they think about your work, if the nails are still on.
- The criteria rules & the score sheets are on an international standard. If you need more specific information, please feel free to download the guidelines (available soon) from nailympia.com (The London global website).
Rules for the ARENA nail competitions for Nailympia London 2024
These competitions take place at ExCel London on Sunday 13 & Monday 14 October 2024.
GEL POLISH MANICURE – 2 Hands – model´s left-hand French, right-hand Red
TASK & TIME & GOAL
- 45-minutes to complete one left-hand of French gel polish and right-hand in red gel polish.
- The competitor chooses, if they want to use cover for a nail bed extension or transparent pink or clear for a classic style on all 5 nails.
- This competition is done on natural nails only - duration 45-minutes for both hands on models.
- The model is to arrive with manicured nails, prepare the nails at home/hotel.
- Nails ready for gel polish must be enhanced and coated with any type of Gel polish/Soak off system/product.
- No design element is required. Just a picture-perfect flawless set of nails.
- No manicure procedure is necessary during this competition.
Both hands on model
- Right hand to be created in a solid red colour on the natural nail plate.
- Left hand to be finished in a traditional French manicure style on the natural nail plate.
POLISH & HIGH SHINE
- Competitors must polish 5 nails with a red gel polish - bright Ferrari red only.
- No ridge filler, traditional/hard sculpting gel or colour gel is allowed.
- The polish may be of the competitors’ choice but without any metallic effect, glitter, matte or pearl effect.
ALLOWED
- Cream, lotion, oil & polish dry products may be used.
- Water & soap may be used in finishing.
- E-Files are allowed.
- UV|LED lamp needs to be brought by the competitor. (Please bring matching lamp with gel polish system of your choice).
- Any soak-off gel polish in a bottle is allowed.
- Rubber base & normal base is allowed.
- Use white soak-off gel polish in a bottle on the free edge for French.
- A white & transparent pink, clear or cover soak-off gel polish in a bottle for the nail bed & a transparent soak-off top coat gel polish in a bottle for the finish is allowed.
- A classic Ferrari red soak-off gel polish in a bottle is recommended.
- A thin nail art brush to create a smile line is allowed.
NOT ALLOWED
- Natural overlay, ombré or baby boomer are not allowed.
- No other systems are allowed, only gel polish/soak-off manicure system.
- No decals, pre-designed or printed appliqués to be used.
- No Stamping of art allowed.
- No mixing of camouflage cover pink or whites before or during the competition in the arena.
- All overlay products and material must be in original packaging – with clear correct label.
- Excess lotion and oil will afford point deductions. If a competitor is seen cleaning hands and nails after the competition is closed with any product, such as canned air, it is immediate disqualification.
- Competitors may not touch the nail tips prior to the start of the competition.
- The line between the transparent pink/clear or camouflage and white must be visible and clearly defined.
- No matte top coat is allowed.
- No ridge filler, traditional sculpting gel or colour gel are allowed.
- Any other bottles/soak-off gels are not allowed in the competition except for red gel polish and French soak-off gel polish bottles.
- No tools, cutters or e-files to aid the creation of smile lines are to be used. Hand file or brush to be used only.
- Acrylic paint, color gel, painting gel or gel polish in a jar /tube, sculpting gel or hybrid/polygel/acrylgel is not allowed.
- No touching or pre-blending allowed before the competition begins.
- No glitter, shimmer or frost permitted or any colour with pearl, glitter or shimmer.
- All colours must be free of pearl & metallic & matte effect.
- No hard gel/sculpting gel, acrylic or acrygel are not allowed.
- No extension of the nail plate/natural nail is allowed. The nail plate/natural nail must be free of product & natural.
- Products without any label are not allowed.
- All product trolleys, jackets and handbags have to be away from the table and the competitor is not allowed to use products from the trolley after the competition begins. If they need something, they have to ask a floor judge to get it for them.
- Warning: The working material, trolleys, jackets and bags will be controlled by the floor judges and all materials found that are not allowed for any category will be taken from the competitor by the floor judge and placed on a table. Competitors will be allowed, of course, to pick up all confiscated products upon the completion of the competition. Any competitor found in violation of the rules and regulations and attempting to cheat will be disqualified. This competition will be fair and the same for every competitor.

SCORE SHEET CONTENT
JUDGE 1
- POLISH (10): Right hand is to be polished consistently even with 1mm space in the cuticle area, without any streaking in the polish. Sides, surface & tip of edge covered. No polish on skin, under the nail or in concave.
- TOP GLOSS | HIGH SHINE (10): Left hand work is to be performed using only a gel polish top coat over the entire surface of convex. There should be no visible file scratches, no matte spots on the surface due to unevenness. The 5 nails have to shine with a glass finish.
JUDGE 2
- NAIL LENGTH (10): The length has to be consistent & in proportion with the hand & the fingers on all 10 nails.
JUDGE 3
- CUTICLE AREA (10): No cuts or irritation around skin. Points will be deducted for any damage to the skin during the nail competition. Even product application with no ledge or missing product.
JUDGE 3
- HAIR LINE & FREE EDGE (10): The nails must be consistently thin throughout the entire nail, be uniformly thin on each nail. Thickness will be considered by the judges in the degree of difficulty (thinner & consistent being more difficult).
- CONVEX (10): A consistent structure has to follow the shape of the entire nail down the entire length of the nail in convex. It must be symmetrical & even on all fingers.
JUDGE 4
- NAIL SHAPE (10): The shape of the nails looks consistent & uniform looking down on from above the nail & from the model’s perspective. Any shape is allowed. Decide on one, don´t mix!
- SMILE LINE (10): Consistent shape on all 5 nails, evenly applied, no shadows, clean line & evenly aligned. Do the end points end in the lateral sidewall to a sharp point?
JUDGE 5
- WHITE EXTENSION / APPLICATION OF WHITE (10): Even application of product, no shadows, or bubbles, no pits & consistent across all 5 nails. Sharp division of colour at smile line & no pink or clear on the white extension.
- NAIL BED / APPLICATION OF PINK/CLEAR/CAMOUFLAGE (10): Even application of product, no shadows, or bubbles, no pits & consistent across all 5 nails. Sharp division of colour at smile line & a good blend on the nail bed towards the cuticle area. Choose transparent pink, clear or camouflage, just one for all 5 nails! The colour of the nail bed needs to complement the skin tone.
LED Hard Gel Tip & Overlay – 75-minutes
TASK
- Tip & Overlay on the model’s LEFT hand with LED hard gel.
- On the underside of the nail – the judges DO NOT need to see white under the 2 red nails, this means 3 nails need to be created in a traditional French style pink & white.
- Transparent pink, clear and/or camouflage, needs to be used for all 3 P&W nails. The colour of the nail bed needs to complement the skin tone and needs to be the same on all 3 nails.
- NOTE - It is not necessary to create lunula/moons on the nail – there are no extra points.
POLISH & HIGH SHINE
- Competitors must polish 2 fingers, thumb & pinkie with a red cream polish/lacquer only.
- No lacquer base or lacquer top coat, ridge filler, colour gel or gel polish system is allowed.
- All 5 gel nails must be finished just through a top gloss gel.
- The polish may be of the competitors’ choice but without any metallic effect, glitter, matte or pearl effect.
ALLOWED
- Cream, lotion, oil, polish dry & canned air products may be used.
- Water & soap may be used in finishing.
- For Tip & Overlay a new box of 100 tips (10 per size) need to be brought. Floor judges will be closely inspecting every box.
- You are only permitted to use natural or clear tips.
- E-Files are allowed.
- Gel competitors must bring a UV or LED gel lamp.
- Adhesive is allowed for tip & overlay.
- Only traditional Gel is allowed, no other systems or products.
- For the finish, only Top Gel in a jar or a Top Gel in a bottle is allowed. Any other bottles/soak-off gels are not allowed in the Gel competitions except for red polish/lacquer in a bottle.
NOT ALLOWED

- Tips must be clear or natural, no white tips are allowed. Preparation of tips prior to the beginning of the competition is not allowed & all prepared tips will be confiscated by the floor judges. When the competitor makes the choice to use tips, the tip box should not have prepared tips inside the box.
- Every competitor must arrive with an organised tip box with at least 10 tips of each size in each allocated size compartment of the box. A disorganised tip box will be removed from the desk by a floor judge. Tips need to stay in the box until the competition starts.
- No tip or form sizing, touching, cutting or pre-blending allowed before the comp begins. No preparation of any tips in any way is allowed!
- The line between the transparent pink/clear or camouflage & white extension must be visible & clearly defined.
- No lacquer base coat, lacquer ridge filler, no lacquer top coat, no colour gel, no gel polish system allowed. Only sculpting white & camouflage as a colour gel (thick viscosity) is allowed.
- No paint-on French is allowed. French needs to be sculpted with a traditional sculpting gel, as well as the nail bed when using camouflage.
- No hybrid/any kind of acrygel, dip system & no gel polish products are allowed in the traditional Gel competition.
- No tools, cutters or e-files to aid the creation of smile lines are to be used. Hand file or brush to be used only.
- No gel polish, thin colour gel (white or cover) or dip systems to be used. Camouflage needs to be sculpted as well.
- All product trolleys, jackets & handbags to be away from the table & the competitor is not allowed to use products from the trolley after the competition begins. If they need something, they have to ask a floor judge to get it.
- For the finish, only Top Gel in a jar or a Top Gel in a bottle is allowed. Any other bottles/soak-off gels are not allowed in the Gel competitions except for red polish/lacquer in a bottle.
- Warning: Nailympia doesn’t allow any gel coating to be judged if not fully cured. Any uncured product found will be instant disqualification. All dispersion layers will be wiped clean by competitor or model, otherwise competitor will be disqualified.
- Warning: All materials found that are not allowed for any category will be taken from the competitor by the floor judge & placed on a table. Competitors will be allowed to pick up all confiscated products upon the completion of the competition. Any competitor found in violation of the rules & regulations & attempting to cheat will be disqualified. This competition will be fair & the same for every competitor.

- TOP GLOSS | HIGH SHINE (10): Index, middle & ring fingers are to be finished with a top gloss over the entire surface of convex. There should be no visible file scratches, no matte spots on the surface due to unevenness & the work is to be performed using a top gel. The three nails have to shine with a glass finish.
JUDGE 2

- NAIL LENGTH (15): The length has to be consistent & in proportion with the hand & the fingers on all 5 nails. The nails should be in line with the proximal phalanges & metacarpal head bones. The small finger must be shorter than the ring & index finger. The ring & index finger have to be shorter than the middle finger & the thumb. The correct length of the competition nails is your choice and should be min. 50 % & max. 80%.
Example: You can create the nail bed with a transparent pink or clear or extend it with a camouflage. If you want to go with a min. of 50% for example you create the nail bed of 15mm (measured from the cuticle area to the deepest point of your smile line (top view) and the white extension needs to be 7.5 mm from the deepest point of your smile line to the edge of your hairline (top view) and from the lateral fold (side perspective) 15mm from the end point of your smile line to the corner of your shape/hairline).
- JUDGE 3
- C-CURVE | C-ARCH (TUNNEL VIEW) (15): C-curve should follow the shape of the nail down the entire length of the nail in convex & concave - this is the C-Arch of the nail (tunnel view). The c-curve must be symmetrical & even on all fingers. C-curve should be 30 - 50% (higher degree of difficulty at 50%) out of a circle from a 100% on all 5 nails. Don´t mix, choose one! EXAMPLE: If the competitor chooses 45% on the first nail, all nails need to have a 45% c-curve.
- In the convex & concave a consistent structure has to follow the shape of the entire nail down the entire length of the nail in convex & concave. It must be symmetrical & even on all fingers. Convex & concave lower side lines need to be as thin as the hair line or thinner but even on both sides.
JUDGE 4
- APEX (10): High point of apex & arch must be consistently placed on each nail with correct placement for the resulting nail. Not overly pronounced & must be elegant. The apex should be consistent & even on all nails. When viewed from the side the apex should be between 25% & 50% of the entire length from cuticle to hair line.
- HAIR LINE & FREE EDGE (10): The nails must be consistently thin throughout the entire nail, be uniformly thin on each nail & no thicker than a business card. Thickness will be considered by the judges in the degree of difficulty (thinner & consistent being more difficult).
JUDGE 5
- UPPER ARCH – UPPER SIDE LINE (TOP & SIDE VIEW) (10): From the nail’s side profile, the extension must be parallel to the lower arch of the nail & be even on all 5 nails. From the top view side lines should not be wider than the natural nail lateral side lines or filed away. Top view side lines may be coming out of the lateral sidewall straight or slightly tapered. Don´t mix choose one!
- LOWER ARCH / LOWER SIDE LINE (SIDE VIEW) (10): The lower side lines should be even, neat & extend straight out from the lateral fold on both sides. They must be parallel to the upper arch from the side view. No step or ridges on sidewalls. When viewing the side lines from the view of the hair line/c-curve they should end at the same height.
JUDGE 6
- NAIL SHAPE (10): The shape of the nails looks consistent & uniform looking down on from above the nail & from the model’s perspective. Only square (90-degree angle from the side view) or squoval (75-degree angle from the side view) shape is allowed. Choose one shape, don´t mix! The nails should be in line with the metacarpal head bones.
JUDGE 7
- SMILE LINE (15): Consistent shape on all 3 nails, evenly applied so tips match, no shadows, dips, pits, cloudiness, marbling, waves, clean line & evenly aligned curve. Smile line can be V or U shape, flat or deep, (U shape and deep being judged as more difficult). Choose one, don´t mix. Smile line of the index & ring fingers should have the same length measured from the cuticle area to the deepest point of the smile line & from the end point in the lateral folds to the hair line Smile line of the middle finger & thumb (same) needs to be longer than the ring & index fingers (same). Smile line of the pinkie needs to be shorter than the ring & index fingers (same). The end points should measure equal distance on right and left side of the lateral fold.
- JUDGE 8

Nail bed of the index & ring fingers should have the same length measured from the cuticle area to the deepest point of the smile line. Pinkie nail bed needs to be shorter than the index & ring fingers. Nail bed of the middle finger needs to be longer than ring & index fingers & the same on the thumb. Use transparent pink, clear or camouflage, for 3 nails! The colour of the nail bed needs to complement the skin tone.
JUDGE 9
- CUTICLE AREA (10): No cuts or irritation around skin. Points will be deducted for any damage to the skin during the nail competition. Even product application with no ledge or missing product.
- SURFACE SMOOTHNESS (10): No file lines or indentations. Finished product is smooth without bumps, dips & no rough or dull spots.
P&W ACRYLIC SCULPTURE COMPETITION NAILS – model’s right-hand
TASK & TIME & GOAL
- The acrylic nail enhancements created by the competitors are to be competition style nails on the model’s right hand.
- Transparent pink, clear and/or camouflage, needs to be used for all 3 P&W nails. The colour of the nail bed needs to complement the skin tone and needs to be the same on all 3 nails.
- Moons are not necessary as there are no extra points.
- One-hand competitors will be given 75-minutes to complete the hand.
POLISH & HIGH SHINE
- Competitors must polish 2 fingers, thumb & pinkie with a red cream polish/lacquer only.
- No base or top coat, ridge filler, colour gel or gel polish is allowed – just nail polish.
- Acrylic nails must be brought to a high shine using ONLY files & buffer.
- The polish may be of the competitor’s choice but without any metallic effect, glitter, matte or pearl effect.
ALLOWED
- Cream, lotion, oil & polish dry products may be used.
- Water & soap may be used in finishing as well as canned air.
- For sculpture ONLY & EXACT 25 nail forms per comp are allowed. Floor judges will be closely inspecting every form.
- E-Files are allowed.
- Only traditional Liquid & Powder is allowed, no other systems or products.
- All acrylic nails need to be buffed to a high shine.
- Adhesive is only allowed for tip & overlay. Nor for sculpture.
- The 3 P&W nails need to be buffed to a high shine.
NOT ALLOWED
- All overlay products & material must be in original packaging – with clear correct label.
- Excess lotion & oil will afford point deductions. If a competitor is seen cleaning hands & nails after the competition is closed with any product, such as canned air, it is immediate disqualification.
- Competitors may not touch the nails prior to the start of the competition during the briefing.
- Preparation of sculpting forms prior to the beginning of the competition is not allowed & all prepared sculpting forms will be confiscated by the floor judges.
- When the competitor chooses to use sculpting forms, the forms must be on a roll or 25 separate & not prepared or tailored. You must NOT prepare the sculpting forms prior to the beginning of the competition. Aluminum paper used for support underneath the form is allowed but is to be flat & separate on the nail table at the beginning of the competition, uncut & not placed on the sculpting form prior to the competition starting.
- The line between the transparent pink/clear or camouflage & white extension must be visible & clearly defined.
- No gel or gel polish products/sealers or any other system to be used on this L&P acrylic category.
- No base coat, ridge filler color gel, gel polish or top coat is allowed. ALL L&P acrylic nails need to be buffed to a high shine.
- Adhesive for tips is not allowed on the nail desk.
- UV or LED gel lamps are not allowed in the acrylic competition. Do not use your lamp for a hand rest. NO gel lamp on the desk.
- Any other bottles/soak-off gels are not allowed in an acrylic competition except for red polish/lacquer.
- Finish/Top Gel or similar, in a jar or bottle is not allowed in the acrylic categories, except for red polish/lacquer.
- Competitors need to only buff to a high shine.
- No tools, cutters or e-files to aid the creation of smile lines are to be used. Hand file or brush to be used only.
- No paint-on French is allowed. French needs to be sculpted.

French Twist – 3-Shape Challenge – 75-minutes
TASK
-
- Nails to be sculpted on forms on the hand of the model or your own hand.
- You must sculpt 3 different form & shapes min. 2 inches long from cuticle area to the hair line on a form as follows.
- All 3 nails – no thumb: Smile line needs to be created & Inlay art design in the extension of the nail is required & can be sculpted in any colour.
- Nail bed has to be in transparent pink/clear or camouflage/cover.
- Competitors will be given 75-minutes to complete the hand.
- All 3 nails can have a different inlay design, but need to be created in the same colour/s.
- Everything must be created or sculpted as an inlay/ encapsulated, no 3D/overlay art.
- All products must be in original packaging – with clear correct labels.
- Gel competitors must bring a UV or LED gel lamp.
HIGH SHINE
- No base or lacquer topcoat, ridge filler, gel polish/soak off system is allowed.
- The surface needs to be even & in a high shine. Can be buffed or sealed with a traditional gel topcoat.

Smile line of the middle finger needs to be longer than ring & index fingers. Smile line in accordance with the nail structure.
- INLAY DESIGN (20):Can you see an obvious & clever inlay design on 3 nails? Are you seeing creative/skillful use of inlay design decoration on 3 nails? Example: Smile lines (encapsulated 3D), sculpted flowers, sculpted swirls, colour fading etc.

- C-CURVE (20):C-curve in accordance with the nail structure.
- HAIRLINE/FREE EDGE THICKNESS (20):The nails must be consistently thin throughout the entire nail, be uniformly thin on each nail & no thicker than a business card. Thickness will be considered by the judges in the degree of difficulty (thinner & consistent being more difficult).

- APEX/ARCH (20):High point of apex & arch must be consistently placed on each nail with correct placement for the resulting nail. Not overly pronounced & must be elegant. The apex should be consistent & even on all nails. Apex in accordance with the nail structure.

- NAIL LENGTH (15):The length has to be consistent & in proportion with the hand & the fingers on all 4 nails. The nails should be in line with the proximal phalanges & metacarpal head bones. The small finger must be shorter than the ring & index finger. The ring & index finger have to be shorter than the middle finger & the thumb. The correct length of the nails starting with the middle should be min. 2 inches.

There should be no visible file scratches, no matte spots on the surface due to unevenness. The 3 nails have to shine with a glass finish. No file lines or demarcations. Finished product is smooth without bumps, dips & no rough or dull spots.

- These nails can be commercial salon nails; they can be extreme; they can be fantasy; they must be original & inspirational.
- Each nail must be different in length, shape & design. Points will be deducted if 3 different nails are not shown.
- They will be judged on the skill of a true nail professional. The judges will be looking for the ‘wow’ factor. The more skills & creativity used, the better. It’s a showcase for what YOU can bring to the nail industry to innovate & inspire.

Fantasy Complete Look – 60-minutes
TASK
- The fantasy work must be adhered to natural nails only. No polish color, no French or natural enhancements, no gel polish – just natural nails only on the competition floor. The natural nails can be pre-manicured. 10-points deducted if the nails have polish or base coat on them.
- Only the model & competitor are allowed on the competition floor. The costuming, make-up & hair may be assembled before the competition & can be a team effort. The nails must be added to the complete look during the 60-minutes competition by the competitor with no additional help.
- All pieces or embellishments to go on the nails may be completely created prior to the competition, then assembled & placed/adhered to the nails during the competition. You must create 10 separate tips to adhere to the 10 nails during the competition. It must be 10 nails for 10 fingers.
- 3D, pre-cast embellishments, feathers, decals, gems, accessories, ornaments or any form of fantasy are allowed.
- Models must wear their costume prior to the start of the competition, with final touches completed during the competition.
- The costume is a large part of this competition (1-20 points), as this competition stresses creativity, difficulty & how well the theme of the entire design & costume work together. Dress the model in the theme from head to toes.
- Complete your work with no more than 50 words on a small card in English (to be placed at the model’s feet during judging). Outline your theme & nail art media used. Explain what techniques, products & materials have been used for the creation.
- No step-by-step photographs accepted. Photos of the work or artist involved will lead to point deductions or disqualification.
- Points can be lost if elements of design are bought ready-made & embellished.
- Keep all elements neat & well finished with no visible signs of glue, dust or debris.
- Difficulty is evaluated by the level of detail & intricacies noted within each element. Less is sometimes more & big does not always mean better.

SALON NAILS – 5 nails – 60-minutes
TASK & TIME & GOAL
- The nail enhancements created by the competitors are to be salon nails.
- Show your skills as a salon nail professional: everyday nails for everyday clients.
- 60-minutes to complete one hand of salon-style nail
- The nail enhancements must be finished in a French style pink & white, ombré or baby boomer blend.
- Choose between one of these artificial systems: L&P Acrylic, Sculpting Gel, fiberglass, hybrids, Acrygel, then shape, style & lengthen nails accordingly.
- The competitor can choose to work on forms or tips.
- The competitor chooses, if they want to use cover for a nail bed extension or transparent pink or clear for a classic style on all 5 nails.
- RING FINGER is to be embellished to create a feature nail. This nail must complement the overall look, not detract, but enhance the complete look and can be embellished in any way you choose. Foils, glitters, rhinestones, powders, hand painting are allowed. NO decals, pre-designed or printed appliqués to be used. No Stamping of art allowed. Gel polish & paints are allowed for this - only for the ring finger.
POLISH & HIGH SHINE
- No base or top coat, ridge filler, colour gel or gel polish is is allowed on the French nails. Gel polish is allowed only for the feature nail design.
- All systems must be brought to a high shine through files & buffer or with a top gel.

- C-CURVE (15): C-Curve should follow the shape of the nail down the entire length of the nail in convex & concave. The C-Curve must be symmetrical & even on all fingers. C-Curve should be 30 - 50% out of a circle from a 100% on all 5 nails. Don´t mix, choose one! EXAMPLE: If the competitor chooses 45% on the first nail, all nails need to have a 45% C-Curve.
- APEX (15): High point of apex & arch must be consistently placed on each nail with correct placement for the resulting nail. Not overly pronounced & elegant. The apex should be consistent & even on all nails. When viewed from the side the apex should be between 25% & 50% of the entire length from cuticle to hair line.

- NAIL SHAPE (10): The shape of the nails looks consistent & uniform looking down from above the nail & from the model’s perspective. Any shape is allowed as long as you stay consistent across all 5 nails.
- SMILE LINE/ BLEND (10): Consistent shape on all 5 nails, evenly applied so tips match, no shadows, dips, pits, cloudiness, marbling, waves, clean line & evenly aligned curve. Smile line of the index & ring fingers should have the same length measured from the cuticle area to the deepest point of the smile line. The pinkie needs to be shorter than the index & ring fingers. Smile line of the middle finger needs to be longer than ring & index fingers & the same on the thumb. Smile line needs to be in balance & harmony with the hand, finger, shape & cuticle area. The end points should measure equal distance on right and left side of the lateral fold. For baby boomer, the same dynamic is to be seen across the nails with perfectly blended pink & white baby boomer nails across 3 nails & the thumb.

- The competitor can choose to work on forms or tips.
- Pinkie & thumb nails must be pink & white with crisp smile line.
- Artwork can be encapsulated, an inlay or on top of the nails, the height must not exceed 5mm.
- Stiletto Nails offers the opportunity to demonstrate perfect structure plus showcasing creative art & design skills.
- A traditional stiletto nail tapers symmetrically (triangle) & consistently in a straight line (metacarpal head bones) into a sharp point (end of the extension).
- All designs must be original & not seen in previous competitions or images.

JUDGE 1
- NAIL LENGTH (20): The length has to be consistent & in proportion with the hand & the fingers on all 5 nails. The nails should be in line with the proximal phalanges & metacarpal head bones. The small finger must be shorter than the ring & index fingers. The ring & index fingers have to be shorter than the middle finger & the thumb. The nail measured from the cuticle area (top view) to the point of the stiletto (top view). The correct length of the stiletto should be 1:1. Example: Starting with the French nails = Nail bed 10 mm + Extension 10 mm = total length 20 mm, this would be 1:1.
JUDGE 2
- APEX (20): High point of apex & arch must be consistently placed on each nail with correct placement for the resulting nail. Not overly pronounced, yet must be elegant. The apex should be consistent & even on all nails. When viewed from the side the apex should be between 25% & 50% of the entire length from cuticle to hair line.
JUDGE 3
- CONVEX & CONCAVE | FREE EDGE THICKNESS (15): Looking in the tunnel view consistent structure has to follow the shape of the entire nail down the entire length of the nail in convex & concave. It must be symmetrical & even on all fingers. Convex & Concave lower side lines (looking from underneath) need to be thin & even on both sides. The nails must be consistently thin throughout the entire nail, be uniformly thin on each nail & no thicker than a business card. Thickness will be considered by the judges in the degree of difficulty (thinner & consistent being more difficult).
JUDGE 4
- UPPER ARCH – UPPER SIDE LINE (TOP & SIDE VIEW) (10): From the nail’s side view, the upper arch extension has to run down to the point & meet the lower arch & have to be even on all 5 nails. From the top view side lines should not be wider than the natural nail fold & not filed away. Top view side lines at the extension have to come out of the lateral sidewall tapered into a triangle & end to a sharp point of the stiletto.
- LOWER ARCH / LOWER SIDE LINE (SIDE VIEW) (10): The lower side lines should be even, neat & extend straight out from the lateral fold on both sides. They must meet the upper arch from the side view on the sharp end point of the stiletto. No step or ridges on sidewalls. When viewing the side lines from the side view, they both should be at the same height.
JUDGE 5
- NAIL SHAPE (20): The shape of the nails looks consistent & uniform looking down from above the nail & from the model’s perspective & from the side view. A triangle needs to be created & the tip of the extension should end in a sharp point. The point needs to be in line with the proximal phalanges & metacarpal head bones, not the fingertip or finger knuckle!JUDGE 6
- DESIGN INVENTION (15): Is the decoration/design on the 3 nails fresh & stylish? Evaluate the complexity? 3D art no higher than 5mm off the surface of the nail.

- SMILE LINE | PINKIE & THUMB (10): Consistent shape on both nails, evenly applied so tips match, no shadows, dips, pits, cloudiness, marbling, waves, clean line & evenly aligned curve. The smile line of the thumb - measured from the cuticle area to the deepest point of the smile line & from the end point in the lateral folds to the hair line - need to match. (Note: total length of the thumb needs to match the total length of the middle finger). The smile line of the pinkie - measured from the cuticle area to the deepest point of the smile line & from the end point in the lateral folds to the hair line - need to match. (Note: total length of the pinkie needs to be shorter than the total length of index & ring finger).

- Product control EXTENSION (10): Even application of product, no shadows, or bubbles, no pits & consistent across all 5 nails.
- Product control NAIL BED (10): Even application of product, no shadows, or bubbles, no pits & consistent across all 5 nails. The colour of the nail bed needs to complement the skin tone on the 2 pink & white nails.
JUDGE 9
- CUTICLE AREA (10): No cuts or irritation around skin. Points will be deducted for any damage to the skin during the nail competition. Even product application with no ledge or missing product.
- FINISH WORK | TOP GLOSS | HIGH SHINE (15): There should be no visible file scratches, no matte spots on the surface due to unevenness & the work is to be performed using a high shine buffer or the use of top gel. The 5 nails have to shine with a glass finish.
- SURFACE SMOOTHNESS (10): No file lines or indentations. Finished product is smooth without bumps, dips & no rough or dull spots.

DESIGN NAILS FOR AN ALBUM COVER
THEME – Electro Pop
- Design a set of 5 nail tips to fit the brief – for an Electro Pop album.
- Imagine this is a commercial brief, to create a set of 5 tips to be worn by a model for a photo shoot for an album cover in the electro pop music genre.
- 3D art is acceptable but must be wearable art – no higher off the nail than 0.5cm (5mm); flat art, simple, stylish small embellishments with rhinestones, bullion, glitter, crystals. Maximum height 0.5cm (5mm) from the nail surface.
- The 5 tips must be displayed simply by placing on a hand and photographing.
- Just 5 tips – that fit the theme.

- Send a close up photograph of the 5 tips on the hand and 50 words in a text document in English to explain how you’ve fulfilled the brief. Then send a photo of 5 tips together on a white background. This means 2 photographs with text. (Minimum size requirements for photo is 2MB / maximum is 10MB.

Theme – International Sporting Events
- Style these long nails with the idea of any international sporting event to guide your design.
- Nails to be sculpted or on long tips using L&P acrylic or UV gel systems.
- The application and length designed to the competitor’s desire and ability.
- Any shape is welcome but nail must be more than 2 inches in length from the cuticle. Points given for the more complex the shaping.
- Artwork can be applied on the surface or encapsulated. If artwork is applied to the surface it must be no more than 1/4inch (0.65cm) in height.
- Paint, striper foils, rhinestones and bullion are allowed. Colour foils (plain only) can be used for design. Products used can have colour or glitter added if desired.
- No decals allowed. This means no pre-designed or printed appliqués or decals to be used. No stamping of art allowed.
- All designs must be original and not seen in previous competitions or images.

(One text document – simply describing the 3 nail designs in no more than 100 words in total in English. Make sure the judge can clearly see each block of text for each nail design.)

THEME - Industrial Revolution
Decorate 3 press-on full-cover nail tips to the design brief of the industrial revolution era.
- Competitors must design 3 different nail designs they feel will enhance, accessorise & interpret this brief.
- The 3 tips must be displayed side by side on a sheet of white paper, so they are clearly visible, then photographed. Then take 3 separate photos close up on the white background, so they are clearly viewed.
Add a 5th photo showing a mood board that offers insight into the thoughts, ideas & journey behind the styles. (Do not make this so detailed that it is impossible to navigate on a photo.)
(One text document – simply describing the 3 nail designs in no more than 100 words in total in English. Make sure the judge can clearly see each block of text for each nail design.)
- Competitors may use any suitable materials that do not necessarily have to be nail products or can be a mixture of nail products and other materials. There are no restrictions on the creation of these 3 nails.
