Career biography: I began my nail career in 1995 & I've worked full-time in the salon since. I bought my own salon in 2003 & started entering nail competitions because I wanted to become an educator. I took several art & structure competition classes & was a member of the Tiger Nailpro Team Cup winning team in 2013, I then joined Crystal Nails USA as an educator. At my first bootcamp training with Crystal Nails I was the top scorer earning the opportunity to travel to Budapest for international educator training, where I achieved the highest level of Absolute Master educator. After Crystal Nails ended its full presence in the USA, I went to work for LeChat & won the Nailpro Cup in 2019. I worked as LeChat's lead educator. I've mostly retired from competing & now focus on teaching & judging competitions now. I've also organised several competitions for The Utah Nail Expo & Premiere Orlando during covid when Nailympia was unable to be held there.
Personal biography: I've been married to Dan Littlefield for 27 years & we have one dog & two cats. Currently my salon is located in the front office of his motorcycle repair shop in Grand Junction, Colorado. I'm currently getting into handmade fine jewellery as there are definitely many skills that cross over from the nail industry.
Why you believe in nail competitions?: Nail competitions will improve your salon skills more than you will ever realise. They improve product control, timing & also train your eye to spot flaws & mistakes. The friends & connections you make in competitions will also last a lifetime & take you to wonderful places. Clients also love to brag to their friends that their nail tech does competitions. It also gives you a way to stand apart from the nail techs/salons in your area & allows you to charge premium prices for your services.
Advice to competitors: Practice, practice, practice!! Make sure you have a very specific system to keep you on track in timed competitions. Don't wait until you think you're perfect to enter, everyone starts somewhere & you will learn more from losing than you ever will from winning. Ask judges for feedback & apply it to your practice and your next competition.
