Nailympia Online presents line-up of 36 judges

Nailympia Online closes for registration on Saturday 27 February and will be open for another 24 hours to take in submissions. It will finally close its portal at midnight on Sunday 28 February.

This is when the 36-strong judging team will be sent links into their judging portals, which have been allocated to them, but not yet revealed.  “It’s getting very exciting as we get closer to the deadline,” enthuses Alex Fox, Nailympia organiser. “We have upgraded the Nailympia website and turned it into a competition portal where competitors from all over the world can register and upload their entries. This in turn, sends the entry to its respective category, where a link will be created and sent out to the judges ( from 1st March), who will then access their criteria, the entries and score straight into the system.”

With more than 30 countries represented and over 170 competitors, this competition is hotting up as it moves through its last week.

A live awards will be held at 7pm GMT Monday 15 March hosted on the official Nailympia Facebook page with Scratch’s Alex Fox and Helena Biggs, managing editor of Scratch magazine.

New fact-based expert online nail education launches

Introducing Nail Knowledge

After nearly two years in the planning, an idea voiced by Kevin Nicholls from Roo Beauty to Marian Newman has resulted in Nail Knowledge; fact-based online learning with a difference. Nail Knowledge provides the information and understanding essential for the nail professional. It’s presented via three masterclasses; The Nail Unit, Product Chemistry and Health & Safety, each offering five to six separate lessons.

“It’s only taken 2 years!” enthuses Marian Newman BEM. “This is what I’ve been promising you. I am so proud to show you a taste of the project that myself and Kevin Nichols have been working on all this time.”

So, ‘what’s the deal with this new online learning?’ is the burning question. Well, the big difference is that it’s presented in a totally unique way. Every individual learns in different ways. Some like reading, some listening, some watching and some ‘experiencing’. Theory is almost always taught using 2D images and diagrams while Nail Knowledge animates all of this teaching. Marian comments, “You can see the nail growing from the nail matrix; you can watch polymerisation happening; see the blood and antibodies rush to fight an allergen!

“Nail Knowledge hits every learning style with beautiful graphics and animations. The written word and the spoken word come together with ‘knowledge points’ in each lesson and ‘knowledge checks’ after each lesson. It culminates in the final exam which, when passed, results in the Nail Knowledge Essential Nail Professional diploma.”

Marian Newman is the author and has collaborated with two other experts; Vitaly Solomonoff (a dermatologist and cosmetic chemist), who edited masterclass one: The Nail Unit and Doug Schoon (world-renowned nail expert and scientist), who edited masterclass two: Product Chemistry.

Nail Education Without Borders

An International Nails Marathon is currently being fashioned by organiser, Viryi Rodriguez, for hungry nail artists to run from 10-24 January 2021 – showcasing two classes per day, Scratch learns from Russian nail artist, Irina Vrodenko.

Promising 15 days of ‘spectacular’ learning from a pool of 33 top class educators, students will visit the cyber space of teachers in Russia, Belarus, Romania, France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Mexico, Colombia, Venezuela, Chile, Argentina and Brazil.

One of the 33 educators over the 15-days in January 2021 is Susy Moreno of Mexico

Driven by a passion to inspire growth in performance from skill development, the marathon is claiming to take the student’s knowledge to a new level.

Topics will expose techniques and tools for crafting all manner of nail structures from square to almond and stiletto, dragon, butterfly, extreme and feline to super-3D then onto colours and painting, incorporating micropainting, realism, cartoons, pop art and princesses. Sterilisation, hygiene and nail diseases are all also covered during the 15-day event.

Classes will be translated into six languages (Spanish, English, Russian, Portuguese, French & Italian), and access granted for three months after the  payment of a $20 registration fee is received for signing up.

The $20 will present access to all classes, access to the closed Facebook forum that’s hosting the classes and an emailed certification on completion with all educators signatures present.

Nailympia Online Festive Discount for Artists

It’s hotting up and the race is on…it’s halfway to the closing date for the first Nailympia Online edition and techs are now beginning to complete their nail styles and designs and submitting them via the website portal. Meanwhile, others are braving the registration process and signing up, so it’s a busy and exciting time behind the scenes on the Nailympia desk. Since I (Alex Fox) work for Scratch and run the Nailympia project, I thought a quick look at the stats would be in order to get competitors a little nail hungry…thirsty and intrigued.

So far there are 130 nail artists, from 26 countries taking 353 seats!

The Nailympia 3-strong team, Alex Fox, Lisa Ebbens and Laura Tarling, in noting the holiday season, are offering a 5% discount on entries taken up before the 3 January, when using the Nailympia5 code at checkout.

WAXING STATISTICAL

The most popular categories are – Joy of Nails, Gel Polish & Invent a Nail Shape of the 12 on offer. However, every category has attracted entries.

There are currently 11 contestants signed up for the Division 4 –  5-Shape VIP Challenge – a most exciting category, which will push, stretch and excite the techs taking part.

Nailympia has created an innovative and unique judging system whereby once the registration closes, all techs will be allocated a new, secret number that only the organiser will know. From registration all competitors were allocated a number to get back into the system to upload their entries, this will become a new, secret number so that all judging is blind and fair.

There will be at least 4 judges on each competition, with some categories affording 7 judges in order to thoroughly dissect the criteria. To date there are 35 judges – experts in their field –  from all over the world giving up their time and expertise to judge for this 16-year-old nail competition brand.

Competitors are invited to send in their head shot to join the Nailympia Wall of Fame – where onlookers can see who’s taking part and from where. This is a  great way for the techs to drum up interest and support among their clients as well as boosting their social media profile while getting in the competition zone.

Nailympia Online first edition will present an overall Top Scorer , a Winner of Winners in Divisions 1, 2 & 3 and the Grand Champion Division 4 Tech. A full winners list and winners imagery will be published in the Scratch magazine February 2021 edition.

JOIN THE RING OF HANDS

Register & take your place on the Nailympia Online Wall of Fame at www.nailympia.com

CLOSING DATE to enter is 17 January 2021.
